LAGOS—In a renewed fight against fake and substandard drugs in the state, Lagos State Task Force on Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods has sealed 33 pharmacy and patent medicine outlets, even as it impounds fake drugs worth millions of Naira in Ojo area of the state.
Disclosing this while reviewing the recent raid in the state, Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary Health Care, Dr. Olufemi Onanuga, said the exercise was informed by the persistent defiance of government’s stipulated regulations on drug production, importation, manufacturing and sales, among others.
He further stated that they had declared zero tolerance on fake drugs and operators of illegal pharmacies.
Onanuga said the 33 outlets were shut for various offences contrary to the provisions of the law on the operation of pharmacies and patent medicine stores in Lagos.
He noted that the sealing of illegal pharmaceutical premises was in accordance with the provision of Chapter C34 of the Counterfeit, Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods (Miscellaneous Provision) Act of 1999, Number 25.
