ENUGU—Police in Enugu have arrested Chinwendu Agbo, 20, for allegedly selling her six-month-old baby for N70,000.

The World Bank has approved $700m for the development of the Sankofa offshore gas project in Ghana. The guarantees includes $500m from the International Development Association (IDA), and $200m from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), to support the state-run Ghana National Petroleum’s (GNPC) gas purchases and the Sankofa project to secure private financing.

ABUJA: The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has read the riot act to any Electricity Distribution Company, Disco, that rejects electricity allotted it by the System Operators, SO, especially when there was no prior notification for such rejection. The Commission in a statement issued weekend in Abuja, warned that it will impose financial penalties on any defaulting electricity distribution company.

Natural Resource Governance Institute, NRGI, has faulted past audits of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, describing the audits as questionable and marred by irregularities and lack of due process. NRGI, an independent, non-profit organisation with focus on governance issues in oil, gas, and mining, in a report titled, “Inside NNPC Oil Sales: A Case for Reform in Nigeria,” stated that only national oil companies with strong audit and reporting requirements tend to realise better returns from their operations.
