12 Profs jostle for UI Vice Chancellorship

Ibadan—AS the search for a new vice-chancellor for the University of Ibadan continues, about 11 out of the 12 Professors jostling for the plum job are from the institution while  one comes from another institution.

UIThe five year tenure of the incumbent Vice-chancellor, Prof. Isaac Adewole expires in November 2015 and this informed the setting up of a committee made up of all the represnetatives of the unions on campus including the Students’ Union Government about two weeks ago.

The external professor, who applied for the job is Prof. A. Adedeji.

Others including Professors O.O Layiwola (Institute of African Studies), O.O Akinyinka (Pediatrics), F.O Egbokhare (Linguistics and African Languages), Arinola, O. Sanya (Physiotherapy), B.O Fagbemi (Veterinary Microbiology and Parasitology), L. Popoola (Forest Resources Management), A.I Olayinka (Geology), A.I Oluleye (Industrial and Production Engineering), O.D Olaleye (Virology), A.E Falaye (Aquaculture and Fisheries Management) and A.A. Agbaje (Political Science) all from the institution.

The Chairman of the committee, University of Ibadan Community Forum 2015′, Professor Nelson Fashina charged with the responsibility of shopping for the new VC, has hinted that the committee would organise a platform where all candidates vying for the position will interact with the university community.

Prof. Fasina said, “All candidates therefore earn respect for their personal opinion, vision and mission, such that no one of them can be intimidated or harassed. All the candidates, will be  given equal opportunities. It is a forum that is meant to articulate the conjunction of positive interest in the direction of unity and harmony as necessary condition for further propagation of the academic excellence.”
