BENIN—AHEAD of the 2016 governorship election in Edo State, the Benin Liberties Forum, BLT, has thrown its weight behind the aspiration of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Osayuki Oshodin.
It also said that it would support the aspiration of Mr. Ken Imansuangbon as governor of the state.
In a statement in Benin, yesterday, by Prince Gregory Igbineweka, the forum said that they were supporting either of the two for the governorship race because they would be able to recover all oil wells belonging to the state from other states as well as clamp down on cultism and thuggery in the state.
He said: “The state has not experienced the level of cult related violence as was seen between April and May 2015, which prompted the Presidency to deploy full police operations in Benin City.
“To severe our state from this hub of violence and injustice over our appropriated oil wells, we have therefore, resolved to extract commitment from Professor Oshodin and Mr Imasuagbon as a basis of our full mobilization and logistics support for their emergence as candidates and subsequent election at the poll.
“From the antecedents of these administrators, we have no doubt that they have almost equal capacity to bail our state out of these situations. Such assurances must be in writing and be published for the reading public to see, so that we can hold them accountable for their social contract.
“Our appeal is directed formally to the leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Labor Party and Social Democratic Party to consider one of the candidates in the overall interest of Edo people, or else, we will mobilise against them in the 2016 election,” the statement said.
