Why we protested Delta Central results, by Ogboru, Omo-Agege

Festus Ahon, Perez Brisbe & Ochuko Akuopha

UGHELLI—GOVERNORSHIP candidate of Labour Party in Delta State, Chief Great Ogboru, has alleged the doctoring of results of the National Assembly elections in Delta Central senatorial district, saying that the results being collated were not backed by empirical materials.

Why I want to govern Delta in 2015 - Omo-Agege

Advancing reasons why he accompanied the party’s flag bearer in Delta Central senatorial district, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, to protest the results collation at the Delta Central collation centre in Ughelli, Ogboru said that what was being collated were not the results that emanated from the elections that took place on Saturday.

He said: “I called the attention of the Returning Officer to the fact that in 2011 when we conducted elections in the state in the same constituencies, by 5p.m., that same day, 90 percent of the results were already collated and by the following day results had been declared.

“This is running now for 72 hours in a localized election of this nature. It is taking 72 hours because the results that are being collated are those that had been doctored and I am being specific about the senatorial and House of Representatives elections. So, we came here to make that complain and to tell them that we need due process to be followed because when you collate results not backed by empirical materials then you are collating rubbish and we are insisting that they must do the proper thing, they must bring all the materials with which they produced the results to back those results up before they are announced.

“I also use this opportunity to tell members of the press that even as we speak, the governorship election results in Delta State are being tampered with, because when we were doing the sorting of the materials for the Presidential and National Assembly elections last week, it became crystal clear that those materials had been tempered with because we saw the governorship result sheets littered all over the Central Bank of Nigeria premises.

“What are governorship result sheets littering at Central Bank of Nigeria for? Why are they not in the cartons or packages in which they were brought? As we speak, we took serial numbers of those result sheets and we took photocopies of the result sheets and we have complained to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC. The truth of the matter is that most of the people who were used for this election in Delta State are fraudsters.

“In Ethiope East, it was proved that somebody posing to be a Returning Officer was not who he claimed to be. He was procured to do a dirty job, so for that reason, we are actually asking Prof. Attahiru Jega, the Chairman of INEC to change all these persons before the governorship election so that we can have some semblance of credibility. We condemn all those result sheets that have been sent to Delta State for the governorship election and urged them to bring fresh result sheets because those ones have been scanned already. What you are seeing there is just a shadow; they have scanned all of those result sheets and they are using them to prepare results.”
