PORT HARCOURT— Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Engr. Tele Ikuru, has denied allegations in some quarters that a major quarrel broke out between him and the state chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Davies Ikanya, over who should make the caretaker committee list in Andoni Local Government Area.

The rumour mill had it that the chairman of the party, Dr Ikanya, who is from the same Andoni council with the deputy governor failed to concede certain slots to the deputy governor during the compilation of the list, a situation, sources said, allegedly sparked off quarrel among their various supporters.

The deputy governor, in a statement, yesterday by his media aide, Mr Godswill Jumbo, denied the rumour, saying his principal was the deputy governor of the entire state and not that of Andoni council only.

The statement insisted that Ikuru was the political leader of Andoni council.

He said: “It has come to the attention of Engr. Ikuru, that some individuals are trying to draw his name into series of issues he knows nothing about. Recently, different individuals have tried in vain to misinform the public that there exists some dispute between him and his party chairman in the state and such has played out in a disagreement between their supporters. This cannot be further from the truth.

“The general public should please note that Ikuru is not just the deputy governor of Andoni council but of the entire Rivers State and its people and as such deserves the respect and honour due him. As at now, he remains the political leader of Andoni people and has conducted himself with the maturity and leadership traits that such high calling demands of him.

“He has no issues to dispute over with his state party chairman or anyone else. Those peddling such inane rumours should henceforth desist from such.”
