The joint security force, comprising Nigerian Army, Navy, Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Nigerian Prisons Service, Directorate of State Security, DSS, has declared its preparedness to ensure free, fair and credible general elections in Anambra State.
The Commander of Onitsha Military Cantonment, the 302 Artillery Regiment, Col. Mohammed Bello, who spoke on behalf of other security organisations, disclosed this after a joint security force simulation to showcase the role and channel of communication of security agencies on election days.
The exercise, tagged, ‘Exercise Nsogbuadiro (No problem),’ is to harness the synergy between other security services in the state as well as see practical lapses that needed to be addressed before the elections.
He said: ‘Exercise, Nsogbuadiro,’ is basically to prepare us, the military with the assistance of other security agencies here, so we come up with good exercise that will prepare our troops for eventual deployment for election duties.”
“Yes, Onitsha is not known for election violence because it is in the urban area and there are units here to contain any problems that may arise, but where we think there would be problems is at the hinterlands, the riverine areas.
‘’In the rural areas where we have less security agencies massively deployed, we have put in adequate measures to ensure that we cover those areas in terms of troops deployment.
‘’In that regard, we have good communication network and mobile patrols that will dominate those areas that are isolated and rural in nature.
“So we are adequately preparing towards the 2015 elections as directed by our appropriate superior authorities
