ABAKALIKI — Former Governor Sam Egwu of Ebonyi State has been elected senator for Ebonyi North senatorial district of the state on the platform of the People Democratic Party PDP, beating his closest rival, Peter Ogoali, of Labour Party.
Also elected were the former state chairman of PDP, Chief Obinna Ogba for Ebonyi Central and Chief Sonni Ogbuoji for Ebonyi South.
The party also swept all the six House of Representative seats announced by Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Ebonyi State.
The breakdown, according to INEC, showed that former Sam Egwu of PDP polled 78,623 to beat Peter Ogeali 53,899 of LP; Chief Sonni Ogbuoji of PDP polled a total votes of 80,753, while his Labour party counterpart, Darlington Okereke, polled 27,229.
In the House of Representative category, Chief Sylvester Ogbaga of PDP polled 38,247 to beat LP Helen Nwobasi who pulled 30,468 votes for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency.
However, Governor Elechi-led Labour Party could not win his polling centre, even as his son, Nnanna Elechi’s ambition to go to Senate was equally dashed.
