UMUAHIA—Abia State Government has begun a process of reviewing its anti-kidnapping and terrorism laws with a view to strengthening and making it more efficient, even as the state anti-child trafficking law is being amended to give it more bite.
Government has prepared some executive bills, including the anti-kidnapping and anti-child trafficking, for transmission to the state House of Assembly.
Commissioner for Information, Dr. Anthony Agbazuere, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the cabinet meeting, said the new law would include revoking, sealing or demolition of property use for kidnapping and child trafficking.
He said: “Any building or home used for the sale of children would be sealed, revoked and, where necessary, demolished.”
Agbazuere also announced that the government had awarded contracts worth N1.4 billion for the execution of some projects in the state.
The projects include the reconstruction and resurfacing of roads in the state capital and its environs.
