Lagos—The All Progressives Congress, APC, Ikorodu Division, yesterday, refuted reports that the Lagos State governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Jimi Agbaje has been endorsed by indigenes of Ikorodu, arguing that he is not an Ikorodu native.
Speaking at the party’s Secretariat, in Oke Ota-Ona, Ikorodu, former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye and former Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun, said reports that Agbaje is an Ikorodu indigene and that he has been endorsed in consensus by Ikorodu indigenes under the aegis of Eminent Persons of Ikorodu Division, EPID, must be rejected on many grounds.
Ogunleye said: “Our attention has been drawn to information making the rounds in Ikorodu and the whole of Lagos State, that the Ikorodu people under the aegis of Eminent Persons of Ikorodu Division have decided to vote for Mr. Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 28, 2015 gubernatorial election, because he is an indigene of Ikorodu. This position is faulted and rejected.’’
Agbaje sues for peace
Meantime, Agbaje has urged supporters and members of the party to eschew violence ahead of the February general elections in the state.
He said this at a rally organised by the party for Agege and Ifako Ijaiye local government areas.
Addressing the supporters, he said that there was need to ensure that there was peace before, during and after the elections.
According to him, “there is no doubt that we will have landslide victory both at the state and Federal level. No matter the provocation I urge you to maintain peaceful conduct so that we do not end up with crisis that will mar our victory”.
