LAGOS—Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has urged residents to desist from burning of refuse by adhering strictly to the state’s environmental rules and regulations, in order to prevent avoidable fire outbreak and other conducts that might ignite fire.

The agency also called on them to maintain high environmental standard and ensure cleaner, healthier, safer and accident-free Lagos.

Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr. Ola Oresanya, appealed to residents to also desist from acts such as storage of combustible materials and illegal tapping of electricity, especially in this harmattan period.

Oresanya made a plea to residents to comply with Section 14 (A and B) of the Lagos State’s environmental sanitation law which states that “No person shall burn or cause to be burnt, waste of any description on a tenement, or dump waste at any place other than a waste disposal site.”
