Ado Ekiti—Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayo Fayose has made a U-turn by ordering immediate payment of outstanding August salaries of teachers said to have been owed by the immediate past administration i in the state. He had vowed not to settle the month’s pay.

According to the statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, the payment marked the beginning of clearance of other unpaid salaries, especially September, 2014 salary and emoluments left behind by immediate past administration to the various categories of workers.

According to Adelusi, the governor had always believed that with patience on the part of Ekiti people, especially workers, all challenges of huge debt and others left behind by the past administration would be surmounted.

Confirming the development, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, which is the umbrella body of teachers expressed gratitude to the governor with a pledge to continue to support and cooperate with the government.

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti yesterday and signed by the state Chairman, Comrade Kayode Akosile and Secretary, Comrade Gbenga Ajibade, the union said its members had started receiving alerts of payment of the money.

The body expressed pleasure with the governor, noting that they were surprised that Fayose could still consider paying the outstanding salaries at a time like this when the state was battling with lean purse and heavy commitment of his government to welfare of Ekiti people.
