THE National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, has unveiled a framework aimed at increasing the participation of women and youth in ICT sector.
Director General of the agency, Mr. Peter Jack, said the framework when implemented, has the capacity of leveraging knowledge for development of women and youths thereby stimulating the country’s development.
Presenting the document to members of the public, the DG said the framework is in line with the NITDA mandate to use ICT as central tools and catalyst for development.
He said women and youth constitute large percentage of the country population and there is need to come up with strategic framework which aims at building a nation where they could realize their full potentials.
Jack stated that it was imperative that women and youths who make up the majority of the population are not only carried along but are major players in shaping the direction of evolving a digital nation with sustainable peace, equity and improved quality of life, adding, “The effective use of information and knowledge is becoming the most critical factor for rapid economic growth and wealth creation, and for improving socio-economic well-being and for Nigeria to be globally competitive in the 21st century, a critical factor would be our ability to harness our knowledge potential using ICT.”
