Nigeria is blessed with some good leaders, says expert

Abuja – A management and institutional reform consultant, Dr John Alabi, says Nigeria is blessed with some leaders who are committed to the economic and social transformation of the country.

He said this in Abuja on Friday while presenting a paper at the Nigerian Institute of Management North-Central Zonal Summit 2014.

His paper was entitled “Actualising the National Transformation Agenda-the leadership imperatives-The Singaporean Experience.”

“Nigeria has an interesting mix of leaders; some are quite appreciative of the huge potential of this country and are committed to tackling the numerous problems which have militated against its development.

“Unfortunately, Nigerians on the street cannot feel the effect of the very few who are trying to bring about change in the manner of governance of the country.

“Transformational leaders fundamentally alter the parameters of status quo through providing a vision for the future and investing the time and effort in having others share that vision,” he said.

Alabi said that to actualise the transformation agenda of the current administration, it was imperative to imbibe transformation approach which depended on winning the trust of the people and inspiring a shared vision.

Alabi said there was no doubt that Nigeria needed visionary and transformational leaders at this stage in the nation’s socio-economic development.

“Transformational leaders help their followers to look at old problem via a new perspective and thus stimulate their followers to attempt higher than usual levels.

“They are agents of radical changes that transform organisational pillars to achieve higher levels of idealised performance,” he said. (NAN)
