The burial rites of the former Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Mrs Oluremi Oyo, who died in London last Wednesday would begin on the 16th of this month with a Christian wake and Requiem Mass in Abuja. This was disclosed by the widower, Mr Vincent Oyo.

Other activities include a Requiem Mass on Oct. 22 at Saints Joachim and Anne church— her home church— and a Christian wake on Oct. 23 at NAN media centre, Lagos.

The funeral Mass comes up at Saint Dominic Catholic church, Yaba, Lagos, on Oct. 24, to be followed by interment at Atan Cemetery, Yaba.

NAN reports that over 150 sympathisers have signed the condolence register at her Ijegun residence Meanwhile, the Director General, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Mr Sola Omole on Sunday urged young journalists to emulate the excellence in the profession as was demonstrated by the late Mrs Remi Oyo.

Omole said Oyo never compromised on her profession.

He spoke while on a condolence visit to the Ijegun residence of the Oyos in Lagos.

“She has accomplished the dignity of the profession, she should be celebrated for her exclusive excellence, she never compromised her grounds on policies.

“Remi demonstrated superb expertise in journalism, she was an exceptionally bright woman, which elevated her to being the first female journalist to be a spokesman at the presidency, and first NAN Managing Director,” he said.

According to Omole, Oyo combined journalism with her active participation in the church and became a Papal Dame.

The Assistant Parish Priest, Saints Joachim and Anne Catholic Church, Ijegun, Rev. Fr. Paul Amenaghawon, also described the late Oyo as a philanthropist.

“We have lost a great woman who was the immediate past Vice-Chairman of the church; she impacted the lives of many people, irrespective of where they came from,” he said.

In her contribution, the president, Christian Mothers of Saints Joachim and Anne Catholic Church, Ijegun, Mrs Josephine Eguavoen told NAN that the late Oyo was an exemplary model to women.

“We saw her as a humble wife and mother. Despite her class, she found time to mix and listen to the plight of women who approached her,” she said.

In his tribute, Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger described the late Oyo as a distinguished media practitioner who was a role model for women in journalism the profession.
