ABAKALIKI—JOURNALISTS in Ebonyi State, yesterday, threatened to boycott all the sittings of the state House of Assembly over intimidation of their colleague and muzzling of the press by certain individuals still aggrieved over the manner Vanguard had been covering activities of the House.
It was gathered that a Personal Assistant to one of the lawmakers and the Sergeant-at-Arms of the State House of Assembly (names withheld) moved to intimidate the journalist by sending him out of the chambers, even when sitting was going on.
He was allowed into the chamber after his colleagues, policemen, members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC among others, persuaded the authorities to allow him in.
Some of the journalists, who came to cover the sitting, said if such intimidation continued, no media coverage will be given to the House throughout the tenure of the current Speaker.
