LAGOS—AHEAD of the 2015 general election, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has said that the former Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Olasupo Shasore, an All Progressives Alliance governorship aspirant for Lagos State, was a true son of Lagos. The monarch made the remark in Lagos at the launch of a book, entitled: ‘Possessed’, authored by Shasore, chronicling the history of law and justice in the crown colony of Lagos (1861–1906).
The author, Olasupo Shasore is one of the latest entrants into the governorship race in Lagos State on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC.
Harping on the lineage of Olasupo Shasore, Oba Akinolu recalled that many people do not know that he is the grandson of the land owners in Lagos, adding that his grandfather Rufiu Oloye Shasore, was to be the Chief Oluwa of Lagos in 1913, but intrigues did not allow him to assume that post.
In his remark at the book launch, Governor Babatunde Fashola lamented the relegation of Lagos by the Federal Government, urging the government to return Tafawa Balewa Square TBS, to the original owners. He said that the central government was given the heritage to manage, adding that TBS was part of the land that belongs to the king of Lagos, and with the conquest and possession of Lagos it became crown land administered by the British crown. The governor said that at the end of the colonial era, it was passed to the Federal Government, and when Lagos State was created along with 11 states, it became a state owned land.
Speaking on the title of the book, the author, Mr. Supo Shasore said it was written out of love for Lagos as a true indigene and to explain how Lagos was possessed by the British, and also to highlight the economic injustice against Lagos as well as showcase the record of agitating against social injustice.
