ASABA—MEMBERS of the Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM in Delta State, yesterday, held their congress that saw the emergence of Chief Frank Igwebuike as the state chairman of a 20-man executive, supervised by the Returning Officer, Mr. Samuel Shuaibu at the party’s state secretariat in Asaba.

Meanwhile, the state Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, said it had barred four political parties in the state from participating in the forthcoming local government elections.

Igwebuike, who was returned as the Chairman of PDM told reporters shortly after the congress that “the die is cast. We are repositioning to ensure that we make serious impact both in the forth coming council elections and other elections especially the governorship. Just watch and see. We are not just talking for talking sake, we are strategising and our grass roots sensitisation is paying off. It is going to be a big fight for the ruling PDP.”

Meantime, DSIEC has said that it has barred four political parties from contesting in the council elections, coming up in October 25 this year.
Chairman of DSIEC, Mr. Moses Ogbe, who disclosed this during a train-the-trainers programme organised for the commission by International Foundation for Electoral System, IFES, said that 15 political parties out of the 26 registered political parties in Nigeria registered for the polls but  only 11 political parties met the commission’s guidelines to contest in the polls.”
