A middle-aged man, identified as Mr. Moses Uzoma, has reportedly drowned at a river which serves as a boundary between Abia and Rivers states.
Though the account of what could have prompted his drowning remained sketchy at press time, sources have it that the body of Uzoma, a native of Omoba in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area was, however, found floating on the water some days after he had died.
A source said the body of the victim was later buried at the bank of the river after his immediate family members were contacted.
Members of the victim’s family could not be reached for comments.
When contacted, Abia State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu, said he was yet to be informed of the incident.
It was gathered that a 20-year-old man, identified as Ugonna Ike, in June also drowned in the same River while excavating sand.
The deceased, a native of Uratta in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government, was said to have gone with one Osinachi Okezie to fend for their daily bread before he drowned in the river after every effort made to rescue him failed.
In another development, a man, identified as Chigozie, has been reported dead after he slumped and died in a night vigil.
The incident, it was gathered, happened in a new generation church at Umachara Akpa Mbato village in Obingwa Local Government Area.
Sources have it that the victim slumped twice while the vigil was on-going, before he eventually died.
Pastor of the church, whose name could not be immediately ascertained at the time of the report, was said to have been arrested by the police, while the body of the victim had been deposited in an undisclosed hospital in Aba.
