Akure — STAKEHOLDERS in the oil rich Ilaje council areas of Ondo State have accused successive government of marginalisation in the scheme of things in the state, lamenting that the state has not been fair to them in political patronage.
At a meeting under the auspices of Ilaje League of Professionals, ILP, resolved to produce the next governor in 2017.
All the traditional rulers in the four ethnic nationalities led by the Olugbo of Ugbo, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan attended the stakeholders conference held at Igbokoda under the theme “Ilaje Nation’s Unity and Development.
The Chairman of the lLP, Benson Obayelu, said being the only oil producing local government in the state, it was time for them to see concrete development in the communities.
Obayelu said the four ethnic nationalities were tired of producing the oil that is devastating their communities for others to reap the benefit.
He lamented that despite the enormous resources in the local government, they had nothing to show for it.
The chairman said they would support the political class in pushing for the governorship seat at the appropriate time, saying: “We must get our politics right and support our own into leadership position in politics.”
The monarch led by Oba Akinruntan who shared the same sentiment, said: “I want all the Ilajes to come together irrespective of where you come from and your political party affiliations. When Governor Mimiko finishes in two years time, we must produce the governor.”
