Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has called on leaders to distinguish between politics and governance, attributing their inability to do so as the bane of progress in Africa.
Akpabio spoke at Living Faith Church, Ikot Ebido in Uyo to commemorate 2014 Democracy Day and seven years of his administration in Akwa Ibom State.
He said: “It is time for us to begin to distinguish between politics and governance because they are not the same thing.”
On who takes over from him, Governor Akpabio said: “I do not care who that person is as long as he or she is a citizen of Akwa Ibom State and has what it takes to govern the state.
“It is time for us to begin to distinguish between politics and governance because politics has destroyed governance in Africa.”
Akpabio said in the seven years of his administration, Akwa Ibom had witnessed God’s grace and intervention.
The governor implored the people of the state to pray for God to give them a governor they will be proud of in 2015.
