Confab: Igbo leaders task Jonathan on implementation

IT will be a calamity if the decisions of the National Conference end up in the drawers of the National Assembly like that of the last conference in 2005.

With these words, Igbo leaders on the banner of Professor Ben Nwabueze-led Igbo Leaders of Thought, ILT, yesterday, urged President Goodluck Jonathan “to ensure that the decisions of the National Conference will be binding in order to produce a better united Nigeria.”

During the presidential media chat, Sunday night, President Jonathan said he would use the political pressure of his party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Presidency to push through the accepted recommendations of the confab into reality.

Rising from a strategic committee meeting in Enugu, the Igbo leaders hoped that the President would fulfil his promise.
On the outcome of the meeting, ILT Deputy Secretary, Evangelist Elliot Uko, said the group was satisfied with the briefing of General Ike Nwachukwu (rtd) on the confab and commended him.

They also saluted the Chairman of the South-East Governor’s Forum, Chief Theodore Orji for his maturity and sagacity.
