Jos — Twenty people were said to have died of cholera in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, with 32 others hospitalized, sources said in Jos, yesterday.
It was learnt that the disease had ravaged the area within the last two days.
The Chairman of the local government, Mr. Emmanuel Loman who commented on the incident, however confirmed the death of five people, saying that 32 others were hospitalized but were responding to treatment.
Loman identified poor hygiene as the cause of the problem and advised the people to “keep their environment clean, wash their fruits before eating and avoid staying in a congested environment.”
He also said, “the council has ensured that drugs and medical personnel are available to attend to those hospitalized. The council has set aside a day to sensitize the people on the need to wash their fruits very well before eating and to live in clean environment.”
