ABEOKUTA—THREE councilors in Abeokuta North local government area of Ogun State have been suspended over alleged attempt to steal the council mace.
The affected councilors are Adejojo Saheed; representing ward 4, Elega area, Ayoola Kabir from ward 12, Ita-Oshin/Olomore area and Adio Rasheed from ward 16, Ibara/Idiya area.
According to the letter of their suspension dated May 26, 2014 and signed by deputy leader, Fadairo Abass, one of the suspended councilors, Saheed Adejojo was accused of barging into the legislative chambers during the plenary and carted away the mace.
The other two were said to have been suspended over their alleged sudden disappearance before the incident.
When contacted, the deputy leader, Fadairo Abass confirmed that there was an attempt to steal the council mace and the subsequent suspension of the three councilors.
Fadairo, who was hostile on phone when he was asked to justify the suspension of the other two councilors after they took permission to take their leave before the incident, said “you can go to hell. You can call the governor, don’t call my line again, tell those who contracted you that you cannot do the work.”
