Shortage of blood  in government hospitals in Lagos State has forced husbands of pregnant women to now donate blood.
A member of Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee, Mrs. Sherifat Lawal, who disclosed this at a blood donor drive, said the state would not force any expectant father to donate blood  had there been enough in the blood bank occasioned by 100 per cent voluntary blood donation in the state.

The campaign was organised by the state government, in collaboration with Seventh-Day Adventists Church to mark its Global Youth Day.

Lawal, who said the state was targeting 100 per cent voluntary donation, in line with the World Health organisation, WHO, standards, disclosed that the activities of the committee had improved the number of voluntary blood donors in the state.
According to her, the state within two years had increased the number of voluntary donors from about 2,000 to 4,800.
