Lagos issues ultimatum to substandard masts’ owners

BY OLASUNKANMI AKONI

Lagos—Lagos State Government, yesterday, issued what it termed a final ultimatum to owners of sub-standard masts, the hollow pipe masts, to replace them with the approved specification or have them decommissioned immediately.

The state government while explaining that the move became necessary to avert avoidable loss of lives and property, especially during the rainy season, insisted that the substandard facilities should be replaced with Angular deep, hot, galvanised steel, as the approved standard.

General Manager of Lagos State Urban Furniture Regulatory Unit, UFRU, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, who handed out the warning at Alausa, Ikeja, said the new development was to ensure safety of residents.
Igbokwe lamented that  constant collapse of the old and substandard masts had led to loss of lives and property in the past, saying, “they were all avoidable losses.”
