The Knights of Saint Mulumba,KSM, of the Catholic Church, Lagos took to the streets last week to campaign against what they described as the evil of abortion and use of contraception. made known to the world that the child in the womb is a human being from the moment of conception.
During a three-kilometer rally with the theme: “The Human Family: A Fountain of Grace”, from the Church of Annunciation, Abraham Adesanya Estate, Ajah, terminating at the Catholic Church of the Transfiguration, Metropolitan Grand Knight, Dr Charles Mbelede raised alarm on the need for the society to shun abortion in all ramifications. “
“When you abort, then consider yourself a killer because the child in the womb is a human being from the moment of conception and any attempts to terminate it make you a killer.
“Some find it hard to accept our advocacy for protection of human life through shunning abortion, and use of contraceptives among others. Every conception is God’s gracious gift to mankind, and should be protected.”
Mbelede noted that the idea of the awareness was to demonstrate the Catholic faith which preaches that life is sacred from the moment of conception till death.
He urged singles to dissuade from premarital sex, noting: “…and if for any reason pregnancy occurs, either between married couples or singles, it must be preserved. We need to control ourselves. We have to be sexually disciplined.”
Deputy Metropolitan Grant Knights, Egbert Imomoh admitted that having unwanted baby a times can be stressful and demanding in which some people may not be able to withstand the pressure. This had made Catholic Church to design different package to cope with the challenge.
“To assist women with unwanted pregnancies, the Church has opened centres where they can deliver and be taken care of. Part of which is Hosanna House, also we will be giving them little amount and we are making available a toll-free line where anybody can call for help.”
