ONITSHA — The governorship candidate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in last November 16 election in Anambra State, Mr Tony Nwoye, yesterday described the rescheduling of local government elections for the fourth time as another grand plot to further deceive politicians and political parties.
Addressing his supporters in Awka for their support in the last governorship election, Nwoye said it would be preposterous for any candidate and political party to believe that the council poll rescheduled for January 11, 2014, by the state electoral body, ANSIEC, would hold.
The state electoral body, headed by an acting chairman, Mr Sylvester Okonkwo, had last week at a stakeholders meeting at the ANSIEC premises, announced that the December 21 date for the election was no longer feasible and consequently pronounced January 11, 2014, as a new date.
“If a person could rig the governorship election from the federal level how do you think the local government election that is directly under his armpit would not be massively rigged, manipulated and maneuvered.
“I am not trying to discourage anybody but I am saying what is in my mind that nothing good would come out of the rescheduled council election,” he said.
Besides, Nwoye said the state electoral commission, as currently constituted, fell short of the provision of the 1999 constitution as amended, stating that any poll conducted by Okonkwo would be illegal.
On his election, he said he would fight the legal battle at the tribunal to its logical conclusion.
