The member representing Ughelli Constituency II, in Delta State House of Assembly, Edoja Akpodiete, has dumped Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, for Peoples Democratic Party PDP.
Akpodiete, who defected with thousands of his followers at the residence of the PDP Vice Chairman in the South-South zone, Dr. Steve Oru, at Ughelli, likened his journey to the biblical Saul who was on his way to Damascus.
He, however, said he thanked God that he never got to Dama-scus before he was converted.
He said: “The essence of democracy and politics is the people. My people at whose instance I am at the Assembly have all decided to peg their tents on the camp of PDP and so I have no option than to follow them.
“It is their decision and I cannot be at cross purposes with them so I am on the same page with my people.”
He assured that joining PDP attracted no untoward conse-quence as “DPP is in factions and under such circumstance it is constitutional for an elected member to decamp to any other party.”
Dr. Oru said PDP was the only political party with spread from the grassroots to the national level.
