The World Health Organisation, WHO, has ranked road accidents as the 10th highest cause of deaths worldwide and would soon rise to 3rd.place if there was no change in road use behaviour.

This was revealed at a training for members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, by Suzuki Driving School, SDS, a division of C & I Leasing Plc, operators of Red Cab, in Lagos, yesterday.

Earlier, the Head of SDS, Mr. Awoderu Olusegun, said the training was aimed at adding value to the society where the institute operates. He said although commercial drivers were blamed for road misuse, private motorists were equally as guilty.

Olusegun added that although the training began with Ojota Motor Park, SDS would target corporate bodies in subsequent programmes.

At the event, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Ikeja Command Training Officer, Mr. Tunde Odumasi, said that the road is friendly and peaceful until it made fatal demands based on misuse.

Mr. Efeoluwa Adelusi, Ojota NURTW’s branch Chairman and Lagos State Deputy Organising Secretary, said the union was happy with the training provided by SDS and would give it all the needed support.
