Nigeria committed to ending Boko Haram atrocities

Following the designation of radical Islamist sects, Boko Haram and Ansaru as Foreign Terrorists Organisations, FTOs, the Federal Government has reiterated its commitment towards ending the activities of the sects in collaboration with foreign partners.

A statement by Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Prof. Ade Adefuye, Wednesday, said the embassy had countered pressures from religious organisations and politicians in Nigeria and United States for the designation because of the government’s twin-track approach of enforcement and dialogue. After which it proscribed the Boko Haram sect.

The statement said that the presence of occasional disturbances in three of Nigeria’s 36 states, were not evidence of security lapse in the country, as Nigeria remains a favourite destination for investors and tourists.

Adefuye said: “The intensity of US-Nigeria reactions will not in any way be adversely affected. The Nigeria-US Bi-National Commission will continue to be implemented with vigour.

“Our citizens will not be subjected to unnecessary harassment at immigration border posts. The economic, social and political ties with the United States will continue to wax stronger.”
