WRPC donates science laboratory to school

WARRI – THE management of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), has donated a fully equipped Science Laboratory building worth millions of naira to the Ubeji Grammar School in Warri South Local Government Council area of Delta state.

It also admonished both teachers and students to ensure the proper use and care of the facility.

The Managing Director, WRPC, Mr. Paul Obelley, said the management is committed not only to meeting the aspiration of its hosts, but also to nurturing the educational advancement of students in the sciences by providing them with solid platform to pursue their individual visions.

He said that it was worthy to note that in 2010, at the request of Ubeji Community, the WRPC built a Modern Science Laboratory for the school as part of its yearly corporate social responsibility. The company went further to equip the Science Laboratory with modern tools.

“We believe that this new and well-equipped laboratory will boost the learning capacity of the students who are the leaders of tomorrow. I must commend the people of Ubeji for the maintenance of peace and stability throughout the project work as they have shown their desire to invest in the future and growth of their children.

“I implore you the students to effectively utilize this opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skills; to take good care while handling the equipment; shun examination malpractice and social vices such as cultism and drug abuse, as these will hamper the glorious future ahead of you. I believe that with such commitment, there will be scientists, engineers, doctors and visionary leaders amongst you to improve the lot of the society and the nation as a whole,” Obelley stated.

Represented by the Executive Director Services, WRPC, Mr. Oladipo Lediju, the WRPC boss, also appealed to everyone in the community and its environs, to continue to promote peaceful and cordial relationship between the parties, and protect their pipelines and water ways for smooth operations and safety for all.

The representative of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 11, Chief Sunny Rone, the Obazuaye of Warri Kingdom, expressed gratitude to the management of WRPC for recognizing the need to improve the lot of the community.

The Principal of Ubeji Secondary School, Mr. Godfrey Ogharandukun, thanked God for making it possible for WRPC to complete the project, adding that it would afford the students the opportunity to be exposed to practical science.
