Think global, Shobanjo tasks advert practitioners

Chairman, Troyka Group, Mr. Biodun Shobanjo, has charged his colleagues in the advertising profession to take on the mindset that Nigeria can be represented in the profession at the global stage.

Shobanjo gave the advice when he was honoured with the Advertising Man of All Times Award by the Sun Newspaper penultimate week in Lagos.

He said that the advertising industry had become more intriguing as competition was no more limited to any small geographical sphere, called countries.

Shobanjo said: “The globe is one stage now and everyone aspiring for success must have his/her sight set on conquering the world.

“I charge my colleagues in the advertising profession to take on this mindset so that Nigeria can be ably represented in the profession at global stage.

“It requires passion and diligence. I have encountered much skill. Please spice it up with passion and commitment so that Nigeria can earn her deserved place in advertising in the comity of nations.”

Speaking further, Shobanjo while acknowledging The Sun newspapers for deeming it him worthy of the award, acknowledged professional colleagues, lieutenants and rivals for supporting him and making his march to success in advertising possible.

He charged the current crop of advertising professionals to spice their skill with passion and diligence to stand a chance of realising full potentials.

He said: “Permit me also to use this opportunity to charge our successors to keep the flag flying. The industry has become more intriguing as competition is no more limited to any small geographical sphere, called countries.

“The globe is one stage now and everyone aspiring for success must have his/her sight set on conquering the world.”
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State described Shobanjo as a boost to the state in his contribution to the advertising industry in Nigeria, and Africa in general, and that he is an institution in the industry.

Speaking, Managing Director, The Sun Publishing Limited, Tony Onyima, organisers of the award said “it was an easy decision to bestow the Advertising Man of All Times Award on Biodun Shobanjo because of his indelible footprints on the sands of advertising in Nigeria and indeed, Africa. You can see from the turn out of the leading professionals that this man is worth the honour. I am very satisfied to be associated with appreciating the efforts of a living legend.”

Present at the Award ceremony were the crème de la crème of the integrated marketing communications industry in Nigeria, led by the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), captains of industry and political stalwarts.
