Suswam laments persistent squabbles among political class

MAKURDI—Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, yesterday, lamented that the persistent squabbles among the country’s political class was impacting negatively on the lives of the ordinary Nigerians.

Suswam spoke when he hosted members of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) sector.

He said: “We are just playing politics with everything in this country. Regrettably, we do not care about the impact of our actions on the ordinary citizens because we have jettisoned our responsibilities to our people all because we want to play politics.

“Of cause, we must play politics, but the issue should not be whether one is of the APC, PDP or whatever name. Our primary concern should be how to address the challenges facing our country and by extention, improving the lot of our people who freely gave us their mandates in the first place.

“As politicians, we are collectively and individually guilty of this and the earlier we start shunning those acts that divide us as a people, the better for our country and the ordinary Nigerian in the streets.”

Suswam urged members of the committee to set aside their political differences and come up with decisive action and recommendations to address the unending vandalism of oil pipelines in the country.

According to him, “government had expended huge resources to build pipelines and depots around the country but they are lying wasted today because of activities of vandals, and we much find ways to check the menace.”
