NAIROBI (AFP) – Kenyan troops were continuing to scour Nairobi’s Westgate shopping mall late Tuesday, going shop-to-shop to make sure they had eliminated all the Islamist attackers, sources told AFP at the scene.
“A clearing operation is in progress,” a source told AFP outside the mall.
“They are searching shop by shop to make sure there is nobody left,” a Kenyan security source also said.
“We can’t say it’s over until we are sure that no one is left and nobody is being attacked,” the source said.
Sporadic gunshots and explosions were heard on Tuesday afternoon, but the AFP reporter said the area was now calm.
