Lagos — An Ikeja Magistrate court yesterday remanded a 22- year-old man, to Kirikiri Maximum prison, over alleged armed robbery.
Magistrate Mrs Margaret Dan-Oni, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison, pending the legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution DPP.
The suspect, Chinedu Iwegbena, was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Edet Okoi, said the defendant and others at large committed the alleged crime on August 6, 2013.
Okoi said the defendant, who resides at Alabarago in Ojo, area of Lagos, conspired with others at large while armed with a shot gun and cutlass, and robbed one BlackBerry Bold 5 phone worth N80,000 and another BlackBerry Bold 3 valued at N60,000.
The prosecutor, also said that the defendant stole Jeweries valued N250,000 and a cash sum of N390,000, belonging to one Oyedokun Lukman.
According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is contrary to section 5 (b) and punishable under section 1 (2) (a) of the robbery and firearms (special provisions) Act, Cap 398, Vol xxii, laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2003 as amended.
