Rivers State chapter of Nigerian Councillors Forum, yesterday, threw its support behind the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, saying that his government was focused on the delivery of democracy dividends to the populace.
The forum, at the end of its meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, also condemned what it claimed as surreptitious moves to undermine the governor and the peace of Rivers State.
Chairman of the forum, Mr. Lesor Nwigbaranee, said the councillors, as representatives of the grassroots, took the decision to speak up as they noted that “except strategic stakeholders speak up, the wishes, aspirations and rights of the people of Rivers State, as guaranteed under the 1999 constitution as amended, may be unjustly trampled upon.
“We, and indeed the people we represent, shall not be part of any act or actions instigated to cause breakdown of law and order in Rivers State. We are opposed to any measure, especially made in secret or through any uncanny means, to torpedo Amaechi’s administration.”
