Newcomers, Nembe City of Bayelsa have said they were on a mission to show other teams that they can compete with the very best in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Before Wednesday’s match against current champions, Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium, the Nembe-based side have picked 17 points from a possible 33 in the 11-week old NPFL while Pillars top the log with19 points.
Speaking in an interview, the club’s technical adviser, Meremu Okara, said that he was impressed with the players\performance so far, adding that more surprises were in the offing as the league gets tougher in the coming weeks and months
“We are on a mission to show the supposed big teams that we are as good as them. We may be new in the top league but our results have been speaking for us and we are confident of doing better in the weeks ahead”, said Okara.
He also said that they would not fade away any sooner, insisting that they were going to go far to justify that they were not just a flash in the pan.
“I know that we have taken a lot of people by surprise, with our performance but this is no fluke, it is real. We will take the battle to the battle till the very last match of the season, to ensure that we are emerge as one of the best teams in the country”, said Okara.
