Fuel scarcity hits Warri

By Emma Arubi

WARRI — ACUTE fuel scarcity has crippled commercial activities in Warri,  Delta State, following the non-distribution of petrol by Product and Pipeline Marketing Company, PPMC, a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, due to non-availability of the product.

Most of the filling stations in Warri and its environs have shut down their operations due to scarcity of the product while the few that have petrol now sell for between N120 and N150 per litre. A source that craved anonymity said only diesel and kerosene were currently being loaded at the depot.

The only depot supplying petrol to about five states is Matrix Energy, located at IfieKporo community in Warri, Delta State, and reliable sources told Vanguard that Matrix does not have sufficient products to cover the states at the same time, adding that the Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company, WRPC, product vessels were already on their way to Warri.

Sources said with the expected arrival of the WRPC oil vessels, the scarcity would be reduced, by today.
