Abuja — Unmindful of the unending opposition to his seat, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, yesterday, began moves to consolidate his hold on the leadership of the lower chambers of the National Assembly.
Specifically, Tambuwal and his core loyalists were said to be creating sub-committees of very critical sectors to provide more opportunities for members to head one committee or the other so as to give them a better sense of belonging and reduce dissent.
A lawmaker, who is part of the move to appease all members of the House, told Vanguard that the deal was to provide avenues for virtually all the members to feel a sense of the leadership of the National Assembly.
The member explained that there were 91 committees already in the House with each headed by a chairman and a deputy chairman and that the leadership was set to create what the leadership calls ‘sub-committees’ so as to give more members the opportunity to head a committee in the House.
