Dissolve Delta LG Transition C’ttees, ACN tells Uduaghan

By FESTUS AHON

UGHELLI – DELTA State Chairman of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Chief Adolo Okotie-Eboh, has called for the dissolution of the 25 local government area Transition Committees in the state, describing their inauguration as unlawful and unconstitutional.

It will be recalled that the state government had, on November 12, 2012, inaugurated transition committees in the 25 councils in the state.

Okotie-Eboh, in a statement, yesterday, condemned the delay in the conduct of local government elections in the state.

Okotie-Eboh, in a statement by the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Frank Eghomien, said: “We of ACN in Delta State strongly believe that the non-conduct of elections by the Delta State Government to ensure a system of local government run by democratically elected persons, is a gross violation of Section 7 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, (as amended), which guarantees a democratically elected local government system.

“The administration of oath of office on November 12, 2012 on selected persons by the Government of Delta State into Transition Committees to manage the affairs and funds of the local government councils of Delta State is unlawful.”
