Lagos – Bernard Ogbeide, Head Coach of Warri Wolves FC, said on Thursday that barring any postponement, the club is set for the scheduled commencement of the 2012/2013 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) season on Dec. 1.
Ogbeide said in Lagos on telephone that the league managers must ensure that the Dec. 1 kick-off date for the new season remained unchanged.
The NPL had scheduled Dec.1 as the new date for the commencement of the forthcoming season, after it was moved from the earlier-scheduled kick-off last October.
“We have invited some players in preparation for the 2012/2013 league; we are positive that we will achieve our objectives this time around.
“The organisers have proposed the first week of December for the commencement of the league, which is very good; I just hope it remains the same so that we can keep the league going.
“If there is any postponement again, that will surely bring forth a lot of problems for the league, which will be a disadvantage to us. The date should be allowed to remain,’’ he said.
NAN reports that Ogbeide was appointed as the substantive head coach of Warri Wolves on Oct.8, following the dismissal of Edema Fuludu in September.
The Warri Wolves coach said that the club would ensure that its players conformed to the club’s new approach of doing things.
Ogbeide added that any decision taken would be well thought out before implementation, especially in the recruitment of new players.
“I have just picked up this job. I am still trying to look at the players they have and I have to make out those areas that need to be re-examined.
“We have invited some new players for trials, about 10 of them, but we intend to select the best five or six, as the case maybe,’’ he added. (NAN)
