The Executive Director in charge of Engineering Services at the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency FERMA, Mr Hassan Mohammed has assured that the multi-million Naira 80 tonne per hour asphalt plant being constructed by the agency at its Ijora, Lagos office would be ready by the end of June, 2012.
He dropped the hint while conducting media executives on a facility tour of the plant. Mohammed, an engineer pointed out, that the contractor has assured that the installation of the plant would be completed on schedule, adding that as of now; only a few items are left fore the plant to come on stream.
The ED said that some electrical items such as cables which have to be manufactured by a foreign firm to specification, are some of the things delaying the completion of the plant.
He said that the waiting period would not be long, noting that within the next one month, FERMA should be able to put the plant into full service.
According to him, when the plant fully comes on stream, it would assist tremendously in the maintenance job of the agency.
He added that road construction and maintenance depend largely on the availability of asphalt and with the completion of the plant it would go a long way in making the job of FERMA much easier.
