West Brom striker Peter Osaze Odemwingie said that the new 4-3-3 formation adopted by coach Roy Hodgson will not stop him from scoring and meeting his goal target for the season.
Osaze has been deployed in a new wide-right role in the last two matches and has responded with a glut of goals.
“The manager doesn’t restrict me playing just as a winger,” he said. “When we have the ball we play with three attackers and he wants me to go in the box. That is what brought the first goal and against Wolves. When we are with the ball I try to be a second striker.”
Osaze stated that he can match last season’s haul of 15 goals after doubling his tally in his last two games. He scored a brace in last week’s 4-0 trashing of Sunderland 13 days after his hat-trick against Wolves.
Those five goals took him to 10 in all competitions and he is now confident he can match the 15 he notched in his first season in England.
“I wouldn’t say I gave up on the 15, but at one point I wanted to get into double figures because it didn’t look like I was going to be scoring at all,” admitted the striker. But now, after the last two games, I’m confident. I scored in five games in a row last season and if I can repeat that I will get my 15.”
