Mason gets 3 years imprisonment for attempted jail break

Asaba—A middle-aged mason has been sentenced to three years imprisonment without an option of fine by a Delta State Magistrate court sitting at Ubulu-Uku, for attempting to escape from police custody, after he was arrested for stealing a GSM handset from a shop.

The convict, Amaka Emefine, was jailed after he pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of “maliciously damaging the cell walls of Ubulu Uku police station with an intent to escape from police custody.”

Prosecution had told the court that the convict “on January 22, at Akpama quarters, Ubulu Uku in the Ubulu Uku Magisterial district did steal one  Nokia phone,  property of one Blessing Oluch, female valued at N15,000 and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Volume II Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable to Delta State.
