FG begins land reform scheme in Ondo

Federal Government has chosen Ondo State for the pilot of its land reform scheme, aimed at maximizing benefits of lands for the people.

Chairman of the Presidential committee on Land Reform, Prof Peter Adeniyi, who disclosed this in Akure during a visit to the State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko yesterday, noted that two council areas of Akure North and Ifedore had been selected for the programme.

Prof Adeniyi further disclosed that the committee had visited Ondo State on two occasions which according to him is an indication of the commitment of the state government towards ensuring success of the programme.

He said the initial visit of the committee, under its former chairman, Prof Akin Mobogunje, had afforded it the opportunity of interacting with major stakeholders on land matters in the state, including council chairmen and traditional rulers.

Prof Adeniyi however enjoined both the State and local governments to constitute expanded State Land Use and Allocation Committee and Land Use Advisory Committee respectively to serve as the principal land reform agency in the State and Local governments.

His words “Your Excellency, the Land reform programme is starting from Ondo State . It is therefore our expectation that you will make this programme as part of your success story and a legacy of a leader with an uncommon passion to serve the people.”
