Confusion as unions shut down OOU

By DAUD OLATUNJI
ABEOKUTA— Pandemonium broke out, yesterday after members of Non-Academic Staff of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, shut down the school and declared the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wale Olaitan and the Registrar, Femi Oyewole, personal non-grata over an alleged mismanagement of the institution.

Also the Academic Staffs of the school are protesting what they termed the sacking of their colleagues in 1the name of rationalisation

This came as leaders of the students were accused of leading thugs to unleash terror and attack members of protesting staff of the institution.

But the Students Union  denied the allegation, saying, the SUG, was only interested in how the crisis would be resolved soon.

The Vice-Chancellor and Registrar were locked out of both their offices and lodges, while they were said to have gone into hiding.

ASUU Chairman, Dr. Adesola Nasir, who described the sack of his colleagues as unjustly, said the sack had led to the lingering crisis, saying some lecturers had resigned their appointment following the fear of the unknown.

Reacting to ASUU and other unions’ stance, the Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Segun Odubela, assured that the government was doing everything to restore sanity to the institution.
