LAGOS — The Divisional Police Officer, Pen-Cinema Police Station, Mr Segun Fagbemi, who allegedly shot and killed a protester, Abiodun Ademola, on Monday, while playing football at Ogba area of Lagos State, may be enjoying preferential treatment in detention at the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos.

Sources at the State CID, told Vanguard that the DPO was receiving preferential treatment from his colleagues at the homicide section of the SCID.

A source, who craved anonymity said: “Unlike other murder suspects in detention, Fagbemi, who is former officer in-charge of the State Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, is being allowed to make and receive calls with his mobile phones and he is not locked up in a cell.

“I am not sure he is even kept in a cell. You know those guys at Panti are quite fond of him since he was the former officer in charge, OC SARS, and he commands a lot of respect from them. He has been busy making and receiving calls from his mobile phones and he is not feeling the pains of his action. I also learnt a top member of the National Union of Road Transport Works, NURTW, Lagos, also sent recharge cards worth N5000 to him.”

Corroborating his claim, the source placed a call to the suspect’s mobile telephone and introduced himself simply as Uche, a trader at Adeniji Adele area of the state, where Fagbemi had worked and the suspect said: “Don’t believe everything you read in the papers. I didn’t do what they said I did.”

As you can see, I am even using my mobile phone.”
