ABUJA —THE Federal Government Friday raised an alarm that it could not fire a 1000 mega watts capacity National Independent Power Project, NIPP, from Sapele, Delta State due to shortage of gas and alleged host community restiveness.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, who addressed State House correspondents after the 20th board meeting of the NIPP presided over by its chairman, Vice President Namadi Sambo, said the problem was compounded by some communities that have been destroying gas pipelines.

Uduaghan explained that the board has information that many of the stations were being completed while some were actually ready, but it was discovered that they had challenges in form of gas supply and transmission after production.

He expressed disappointments by the behaviours of communities that are disrupting operations, hence the board has agreed that a meeting of some stakeholders should hold in Asaba on Monday.

According to him, those expected to attend the meeting, according to him, are representatives of the Delta State Government, the Ministry of Power, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and some communities.

He added that the meeting is aimed at finding lasting solution to the destruction of the pipeline that is transmitting gas.
