Eid-el-Kabir: LAWMA warns cart pushers

By Monsur Olowoopejo
LAGOS—As part of measures to ensure a filth-free celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, Lagos State Government has warned cart pushers against illegal activities in the state during and after the Muslim festival.

It announced extension of zero tolerance on cart pushers’ activities in the state to those who patronises them.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency has received delivery of two additional heavy duty poster cleaning trucks as part of its renewed effort to rid the city of posters.

Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr. Ola Oresanya, who spoke on the activities of his agency and plans for the Eld-el-Kabir, noted that the business of cart pushing in the state was contrary to the stipulated laws of the state.

He added that the state government had been magnanimous enough to offer employment to over 200 cart pushers, who dropped the job in response to the state government’s ban after going through the counseling process.

He rule out the possibility of a few recalcitrant ones, who were yet to conform, adding that cart pushers were responsible for most of the illegal dumping of waste in canals and road medians which results into flooding in the state.

He added that cart pushers were not the alternative to waste disposal and appealed to residents to stop patronizing them.
